After sampling a couple of martial art styles in 1974 at 15 years old, I started Judo and took to it immediately. Because I was winning tournaments in the senior divisions as a junior, I was awarded a senior rank of yonkyu. Having trained under Professor Millard Shelton and Professor Larry Beard, I fought and won numerous state championships and 3 national championships and I was awarded Shodan shortly before I turned 18.
Other interests have included Aikido, sword and knife kata and currently boxing. I teach Judo at the Kawa Shi Judo Club in Decatur AL for the Decatur Youth Activities and Police Athletics League.
