SACRIFICE

A true story as printed in the church bulletin.

A business man and a lawyer, both Christians, were on a church tour, traveling in Korea. One day, the tour bus passed a farm field, where they observed a young man, with leather straps secured to his back and shoulders. He was pulling a crude plow, while an old man walked behind, holding the plow handles.

The farmers were noticeably exhausted and exhorting great physical power, especially the young man who was pulling the plow, like a mule or ox.

The lawyer asked the missionary tour guide to stop the bus, so he could take some photos.

“ That’s a curious sight.” “ I suppose they are very poor”, said the lawyer to the missionary guide.

“ Yes!”, was the reply. “ That’s the family of Chi Boui.”

“ When the church was being built in this community, they were eager to give something to the construction, but they had no money, so they sold their only ox and gave all the money to the church fund.”

“ This spring, they are pulling the plow and planting their crops with physical power.”

The lawyer sat silent for a few moments, when a business man sitting beside him said;...“ That must have been a real sacrifice.”

“ They did not call it that, said the missionary”.... “ They thought it was fortunate that they had the ox to sell”.

When the lawyer returned to the states, he took the photo to his minister, and told him the story.

“ I want to double my pledge to this church he said”. “ And please give me some plow work to do, because I have never yet given anything to the church that cost me everything!”
